Dr. George Reisz is the Edward Hashinger Distinguished Professor and Chairman, Department of Medicine, for the UMKC School of Medicine and Truman Medical Centers (TMC). He is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialties in pulmonary disease and critical care.
Dr. Reisz received his undergraduate training from Vanderbilt University where he was a Vanderbilt Scholar. During his junior year of undergraduate education, he was accepted into the Indiana University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree in 1977 and began his residency in Internal Medicine with the UMKC School of Medicine and TMC. He was named Resident of the Year and received the Sirridge Award, given to outstanding senior residents. Upon his completion of his residency training, he was accepted into a two-year fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine.
Dr. Reisz’s dedication to Internal Medicine includes membership in the American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, Missouri Thoracic Society (Vice President 1987-1988), American Thoracic Society (Healthcare Policy Committee, 2000-present), American Federation of Clinical Research (Senator, 1983-1986), Kansas City Pulmonary Roundtable (Chairman, 1985-1998), Medicare Advisory Committee and Association of Professors of Medicine (Education Committee member). Dr. Reisz’s research has focused primarily on pulmonary diseases/disorders and effective and innovative treatments. He has authored/coauthored 19 peer-reviewed publications and an additional 20 academic abstracts. He also serves as a reviewer for The Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Chest and is a member of the editorial board of Hospital Physician.
