Fred Logan is an attorney and partner with the law firm of Logan Logan & Watson, L.C. He presently serves in a number of civic leadership roles, including Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, chair of the board of directors of St. Luke’s South Hospital, and a recently concluded two years of service as chair of the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City.
Mr. Logan has been a strong advocate for life sciences and educational institutions in the greater Kansas City region. Most recently, he chaired the successful campaign to establish the Johnson County Education Research Triangle. This initiative was overwhelmingly approved by Johnson County voters in November, 2008, and represents a first-in-the-nation local sales tax to benefit the University of Kansas Medical Center’s KU Cancer Center, Kansas State University’s Institute of Animal Health and Food Safety in Olathe, and the University of Kansas Edwards Campus.
Mr. Logan was a member of the board of trustees of the Johnson County Community College from 1992 to 1997. Initially appointed to a board vacancy in 1992, he was subsequently elected by the citizens of Johnson County to serve a four year term in 1993. Mr. Logan served as chairman of the board of trustees for three years. He was honored with the college’s Hugh W. Speer Award for Distinguished Service. Additionally, the Johnson County Community College Foundation named Mr. Logan Johnson Countian of the Year for 2008. He and his wife, Carol, were named Volunteers of the Year for 2009 by the Volunteer Center of Johnson County.
Mr. Logan is a longtime advocate of high quality public schools. In 2005, he received the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation’s Patron Award for distinguished service to the Shawnee Mission School District and to public education.
Mr. Logan’s column, “Public Affairs Journal,” appears in the Kansas City Business Journal. The Kansas Press Association awarded him a first place Award of Excellence for column writing in 2008.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University in 1974, and his Juris Doctor degree from that institution in 1977.
