Mr. Berkley is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Tension Envelope Corporation. He represents the fourth generation of the Berkley family to be CEO of the 115-year-old Tension organization, which was founded in Kansas City and now has 12 manufacturing plants and 40 sales offices throughout the United States, and 3 manufacturing operations overseas.
Tension Envelope Corporation is the nation's largest independent direct-to-the-user envelope manufacturer. It is recognized throughout the envelope industry as the leader in innovative envelope products and holds more patents than any other envelope manufacturer. Nationally, the firm has 1,650 associates producing over 11 billion envelopes a year for the retail, direct marketing, public utility, photo finishing, insurance and financial industries.
Mr. Berkley joined Tension as a summer intern and sales trainee in 1977. He began full- time employment as a sales representative in 1981 after earning an MBA at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He graduated from Colorado College in 1978 with a B.A. in history. Prior to being named vice president responsible for sales nationally in 1987, Berkley served as assistant to the executive vice president, then as a sales manager for the Kansas City operation and additionally, as acting general manager of the Tension plant in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. Berkley is active in numerous business, civic and community organizations. He currently serves on the boards of directors of the following organizations: Chairman of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Science City at Union Station. He is currently chairman of the board of the BE2 School-to-Career Partnership. He also serves on the board of Hoover's, Inc. He is a past chairman of the board of directors of Kansas City Consensus and The Learning Exchange.
