As a part of the strategic planning process that preceded the launch of Kansas City’s life sciences initiative, the region’s strengths in the life sciences were assessed.
Following that initial assessment, a set of logical steps were identified that, if taken, would help to grow the region’s economy by focusing available resources on the development of technology-driven national or global hubs.
Working with consultant New Economy Strategies, KCALSI and its partners established an initial set of priority targets for investment and development. The initial target initiatives included:
- Healthcare Knowledge & Services
- Animal Health & Nutrition
- Bio-Pharma Drug Discovery
- Oncology Research, Discovery & Treatment
- Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering
- Neurosciences
As Kansas City’s life sciences initiative continues to evolve, the primary areas of focus are evaluated on an on-going basis by KCALSI’s staff, board and various advisory committees.
