Juergen A. Richt, D.V.M., Ph.D.

Dr. Juergen A. Richt is the Regents Distinguished Professor at K-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine and the Head of the Animal BSL3-Ag Biocontainment space at K-State. He is also the Director of the Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases (CEEZAD).

Dr. Richt is an internationally recognized veterinary microbiologist with research focus throughout his career on zoonotic and emerging animal diseases. He has worked with multiple animal and zoonotic agents including animal influenza viruses, bovine spongiform encephalopathy (aka Mad Cow Disease), chronic wasting disease, borna disease virus, pseudorabies virus and other emerging pathogens. He has developed innovative vaccination concepts against influenza viruses and novel diagnostic tests to detect major swine respiratory pathogens.

Dr. Richt received his Ph.D. in Virus Immunology at the Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen, Germany, and his D.V.M. at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany. He is an editor of Virus Genes, member of the editorial boards of various microbiological journals and has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles.
